NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Western New England University jumped out to an 8-1 start to pull away for a 19-10 victory over the Smith College lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers record now stands at 2-2, while the Golden Bears improve to 2-1 on the year.

Top Performers

• Sophomore Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) led the way with three goals, while Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) and Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) each tallied two apeice. 
• Goalkeeper Alyssa Schams (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) made 10 saves in the loss
• Bella DeAngelo (Portsmouth, RI/Moses Brown School) and Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) each picked up two ground balls

How it Happened

• The Golden Bears held a 42-20 advantage in shots and took a 9-2 lead at the end of the first quarter
• In the second, bacl-to-back goals from Tschider and Sydney Havlick (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) made it a 10-5 game but the visitors rattled off three unanswered goals at the end of the half to make it a 13-5 game
• A string of three Pioneer goals made it 16-9 but WNE finished the game strong with three more goals for the 19-10 final
