Softball Wins Game Two to Split with No. 24 Babson

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College softball team split a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader with No. 24 Babson Sunday afternoon. The visiting Beavers took game one, 1-0, before the Pioneers won the second game, 7-5.

Smith improves to 9-10 overall and 4-2 in the NEWMAC, while Babson moves to 16-6 and 4-2 in league play.

Game 1 | Smith 0, Babson 1
  • Maegan Osmond (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) gave up one run on four hits to go along with three strikeouts over 4.0 innings 
  • Babson's Moira O'Reilly allowed two hits with 10 strikeouts and improves to 10-2 on the year
  • The Beavers scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning on Aubrey Natoli's RBI double to right field scoring Chloe Joslin
  • Piper Corey (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors) and Cece Alaniz earned the only hits of the game for the Pioneers

Game 2 | Smith 7, Babson 5
  • Lucy Helms (Alameda, Calif./Alameda) gave up two earned runs over 5.0 innings to earn the win for Smith
  • Babson pitcher Logan McDonald took the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits
  • Eryn Lee (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) and Lexi Balam (Lyndeborough, NH/Wilton-Lyndeborough Coop HS) each went 3-for-4, while Juno Schantz racked up two hits and two RBI
  • With the game tied at 1-1, Smith erupted for five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead on Schantz's two run triple and RBI doubles from Alaniz and Taylor Ang (San Diego, CA/Canyon Crest Academy)
  • Babson responded by adding three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh for the 7-5 final
