NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep to Williams College Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers dropped game one, 8-1, and fell just short, 1-0, in a five inning second game.
The doubleheader sweep drops Smith's overall record to 9-12.
Game 1 – Williams 8 Smith 1
- Trailing 4-0 in the fifth, Smith's Piper Corey (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors) doubled to left scoring Kierra Collins-Joseph
- The Ephs would add four more runs for the 8-1 final
- Maegan Osmond (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) (3-4) allowed four runs on five hits in two innings
- The Pioneers collected six hits in the loss
Game 2 - Williams 1 Smith 0 (5 Innings)
- Sydney Fleming hit an RBI groundout to score Tayler Wise for the game's only run
- Lucy Helms (Alameda, Calif./Alameda) (5-3) took the loss for the Pioneers, allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts
- Molly Taketa (Redmond, Wash./Woodinville) walked twice and Corey registered the only hit for Smith
