SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Smith softball dropped a pair of games on the road at Springfield in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader at Potter Field. The Pride took game one, 6-2, and game two, 14-6. The result dips the Pioneers' season mark to 9-14 and 4-4 in conference, while Springfield improves to 23-5, 6-0 NEWMAC.
Game 1: Smith 2 Springfield 6
- Trailing 3-0, Smith got on the board on Piper Corey's (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors) two run single which scored Claire Lord (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin Scool) and Lexi Balam (Lyndeborough, NH/Wilton-Lyndeborough Coop HS)
- The Pride would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win
- The Pioneers collected four hits and Corey led the offensive effort with two RBI
- In the circle, Osmond allowed three runs on eight hits
Game 2: Smith 6 Springfield 14
- Eryn Lee's (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) RBI single in the first gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead but Springfield tied the game in their half of the inning
- Each team would score two runs in the third before Smith again took the lead in the fourth. Corey's bases loaded walk scored Balm followed by Taylor Ang's (San Diego, CA/Canyon Crest Academy) two RBI single to put the visitors ahead 6-3
- The Pride responded with an offensive outburst that scored 11 runs in the fourth and fifth innings
- Ang and Juno Schantz each recorded two RBI
- Lucy Helms (Alameda, Calif./Alameda) took the loss, giving up eight runs on 11 hits
