NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College lacrosse program defeated Mount Holyoke College, 18-5, Wednesday evening in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition.
Smith improves to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC.
Top Performers
- Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) tallied a career-high six goals to pace the Pioneers
- Tatum Galuski (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) added four goals, two assists and three ground balls
- Sydney Havlick (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) and Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) each finished with three goals
- Goalkeeper Alyssa Schams (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) made 10 saves in the victory
How it Happened
- Leading 3-2 on goals from Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge), Galuski and Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory), the Pioneers went on a run of eight goals to put them up 11-2 with 4:04 remaining in the second quarter
- Each team found the back of the net in the closing minutes as Smith held a 12-3 lead at halftime
- The Lyons got on the board in the third as Caroline Thompson scored, but the Pioneers responded five more before Thompson's tally made it a 17-5 game heading into the fourth
- Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) notched her sixth goal of the game as Smith claimed the 18-5 win
