NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College lacrosse team built a six-goal lead and held on for a 13-10 victory over Emerson College on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.
Stella Alphas (Weston, Mass./Weston) became Smith's single-season record holder in draw controls as the junior finished with five on the day to bring her total to 106 this season.
Top Performers
- Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) and Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory) each tallied three goals with Tschider adding three assists
- The Pioneers had eight different goal scorers with Alphas finding the back of the net twice
- Goalkeeper Alyssa Schams (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon)Â made seven saves in the win
How it Happened
- Smith jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first before Emerson scored to make it 4-1 with 4:40 left in the first
- Just 20 seconds later, Alphas' unassisted strike put the Pioneers ahead 5-1 going into the second
- Smith scored two goals in the second and went into halftime ahead 7-2
- The Lions scored back-to-back goals to open the third before Smith went on a 3-0 run to go up 10-4
- In the fourth, Emerson pulled within three, 11-8 but Smith would maintain a lead and the 13-10 final
