CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Smith College lacrosse team dropped an 18-7 decision to MIT in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers move to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the NEWMAC, while the Engineers improve to 6-4, 3-1 NEWMAC).

How it Happened
MIT gradually built a 4-0 lead in the first quarter as four different players found the back of the net. Smith ended the shutout with 35 seconds left in the quarter later courtesy of a solo effort by Alphas.

The Engineers' balanced scoring continued in the second stanza as five players each contributed a goal, giving MIT a 9-1 halftime lead.

Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) narrowed the gap to 14-7 with 10:45 left to play. The Engineers replied with four straight goals to close out the game.
