Volleyball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Bonnie May Invitational

NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Bridgewater State before Bates topped the Pioneers 3-0 on the final day of the Bonnie May Invitational. Smith went 2-1 over the course of the tournament and moves to 5-2 overall.

Highlights vs Bridgewater State
  • Trailing 15-14 in the first set, Smith strung together a 5-0 run, accentuated by an ace from Sophia Padilla (Fontana, CA/Saint Lucy's Priory) to make it 20-14
  • Smith continued to increase its lead throughout the opening set, cruising to a 25-17 victory
  • With the Bears ahead 9-8 in the second, the Pioneers put 15 points past their opposition, including four service aces from Nathalie Pak (Lexington, MA/Lexington), making it 23-9
  • After two points from BSU, Smith closed it out 25-11
  • A 9-0 run midway through the third set was all Smith needed to take the match 3-0
  • Ava Zollinger (Orlando, FL/Lake Highland Prep) and Abby Sweeney (Spring, TX/Klein) each finished with six kills
  • Nathalie Pak (Lexington, MA/Lexington) added 16 assists, while Padilla finished with 14 and Gabby Beckman (Aurora, CO/Grandview) recorded 16 digs
Bates Highlights
  • Mia Moscicki (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) led the offensive effort with six kills followed by five from Sweeney
  • Pak and Padilla combined to register 21 assists 
  • The Bates defense held the Pioneers to just a .069 hitting percentage for the match
