NORTHAMPTON - Smith's impressive 43-game home win streak came to an end Sunday afternoon as the eighth-ranked Pioneers suffered a 66-63 setback to Dickinson College in the Smith Holiday Classic. The Pioneers, whose last loss at home was on February 25, 2020, dip to 8-2 on the year.
Sofia Rosa (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 17 points and nine rebounds over the two games.
Inside the Numbers
- Rosa posted her fourth double-double of the year with 17 points and 10 rebounds
- Jessie Ruffner (Rocklin, Calif./Rocklin) added 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go along with seven boards and two assists
- Smith shot 50% (26-of-52) from the field, 33.3% (6-of-18) from three-point range, and 45.5% (5-of-11) from the free throw line
- Dickinson shot 44.2% (23-of-52) from the floor, 25% (2-of-8) from long distance, and 81.8% (18-of-22) from the free-throw line
Game Highlights
- A back-and-forth opening period featured four ties before Smith pulled ahead by five (13-8) on a layup by Rosa with 2:51 left. Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, CA/Fairmont Prep Academy) buried a three-pointer with four seconds in the quarter to make it 16-10 in favor of the Pioneers.
- Ruffner's layup to begin the second game Smith its largest lead of the game at 18-8, but Dickinson responded by rattling off eight-straight points to tie the contest. The teams exchanges buckets late in the half and another Ruffer jumper tied the game at 31 going into the break
- The Red Devils grabbed a 41-38 lead with 3:44 remaining in the third period on Jenna Weinstein's jumper. Rosa put the Pioneers back up 44-43 with 26 left.
- Dickinson's Caitlin Blackman went 10-for-10 at the free-throw line over the final 40 seconds of the game to pull off the upset despite Selam Maher's (Hopkins, MN/St. Louis Park) three-pointer with 20 seconds on the clock to come within 60-59.
