NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College lacrosse team began the 2023 campaign with a 15-7 win over Worcester State on Wednesday evening. 

Smith starts the year 1-0, while the Lancers dip to 0-1.

How it Happened

• After a goal from Mckayle Fisher that put the visitors on top, Smith rallied off seven unanswered goals for a 7-1 advantage at the end of the quarter
• Worcester State outscored Smith 2-1 in the second to but trailed 8-3 at the half
• An evenly matched third made the score 11-6 going into the third
• The Pioneers secured the win in the fourth as Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) added two more and Emma Butterick (Windsor, CT/Windsor) and Carole Sanders found the back of the net for the 17-7 final

By the Numbers

• Tschider finished with six goals and one assists
• Caroline Sanders (Trabuco, CA/Santa Margarita) added a hat trick in her collegiate debut, while Emma Butterick (Windsor, CT/Windsor) scored two goals
• Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) made 13 saves in goal for Smith
