NORTHAMPTON - After more than a week off, the Smith College lacrosse team returned from break with a tightly contested 8-4 win over Southern Maine Thursday afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 3-3 overall, while the Huskies drop to 1-4. 

Game Highlights

• Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) got Smith on the board early followed by back-to-back goals from Caroline Sanders (Trabuco, CA/Santa Margarita) and Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) the Pioneers took a 3-0 lead at the end of one
• A quiet second period resulted in goals by either team in the final five minutes as Smith went into halftime up 4-1
• Cierra Hill put one on the board for the Huskies before goals by Tschider, Tatum Galuski (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) and Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) widened the gap for Smith, 7-2
• Southern Maine added two more in the third and Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory) scored the only goal of the fourth for the 8-4 win

By the Numbers

• Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) and Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) paced the Pioneers with two goals apeice
• Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory) added two assists, while Tatum Galuski (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) and Isabelle Elder (Santa Rosa, CA/Sonoma Academy) each finished with four ground balls
• Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) made 12 saves between the pipes for Smith
