NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College lacrosse team fell to Springfield, 14-3, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest Saturday afternoon in rainy and cold conditions. The Pioneers drop to 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in the NEWMAC, while the Pride improve to 3-4 on the year and 1-1 in league play. 
 

Game Highlights

• Carlee Crispens and Jade O'Connor combined for six goals in the first half as the Pride took a 9-0 lead at halftime
• The visitors went up 12-0 before Caroline Sanders (Trabuco, CA/Santa Margarita) netted her 14th goal of the year to get Smith on the board
• The Pioneers got goal from Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory) and Emma Butterick (Windsor, CT/Windsor) late in the fourth before the Pride added one more to make it a 14-3 final

By the Numbers

• Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) made 10 saves in the loss while Shannon Houtenville (East Windsor, NJ/Highstown) stopped two for the Pioneers
• Gittelman notched her 11th goal of the year and team leading 16th assist this season
