SPRINGFIELD – The Smith College lacrosse team suffered an 11-7 loss at Western New England University Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers move to 2-1 on the year while the Golden Bears even their record to 1-1.

How it Happened

• WNEU found the back of the net first but Smith responded with a 3-0 run to hold a 3-1 advantage after the first
• The Golden Bears outscored Smith 4-1 in the second to make it 5-4 at the break
• A dominant quarter by Western New England proved to be the difference maker as it extended its lead to 10-5 after three
• Sanders and Tschider scored back-to-back goals int he fourth but it wasn't enough as WNEU went on for the 11-7 final

By the Numbers

• Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) had three of the Pioneers seven goals, while Bella DeAngelo (Portsmouth, RI/Moses Brown School) added two
• Caroline Sanders (Trabuco, CA/Santa Margarita) and Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) each chipped in one
• Goalkeeper Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) made 16 saves in the loss
