NEW LONDON, CT - The Smith College lacrosse team was bested by Connecticut College, 13-5, Wednesday evening in a non-conference meeting.  The Pioneers dip to 2-3 on the year, while the Camels begin the season with a 2-0 record. 

Game Highlights

• Connecticut College's high-scoring offense erupted for nine goals in the opening half before Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory) scored unassisted with 2:25 remaining in the second period
• The Camels quickly responded as the hosts took a 9-1 lead at the break
• Another Conn. goal to start the third made it 10-1 before Smith scored four of the game's next five goals to come within 11-5 with 6:13 left in the game
• The Camels extended the margin to 13-5 with back-to-back goals less than a minute apart

By the Numbers

• Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) netted two for Smith, while Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont), Gittelman and Caroline Sanders (Trabuco, CA/Santa Margarita) all scored
• Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) and Shannon Houtenville (East Windsor, NJ/Highstown) each made seven saves between the pipes
• Emily Yorns scored five goals for the hosts
