SOUTH HADLEY - The Smith College lacrosse team defeated Mount Holyoke College, 18-8, in NEWMAC action on Wednesday evening where nine different players scored for the Pioneers. Smith moves to 6-7 on the year with a 3-2 mark in conference play. The Lyons fall to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the NEWMAC.

Game Highlights

• The two teams traded goals in the first minute of play before the Pioneers generated nine unanswered for a 10-1 advantage at the end of the first
• After two goals by MHC to start the second, Emma Butterick (Windsor, CT/Windsor) and Caroline Sanders (Trabuco, CA/Santa Margarita) scored for Smith to return the lead to nine, but the Lyons scored with 3:01 to go, making it a 12-4 Smith lead at the half
• Mount Holyoke opened the second-half scoring with a free-position shot and goal, closing the gap to 12-5 with 13:08 left in the third quarter. Smith reasserted control of the game with five straight goals to close out the quarter with a 17-5 lead.
• The Lyons outscored Smith 3-1 in the fourth quarter but couldn't cut the deficit back into single digits.

• Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) led the visitors with six points on three goals and three assists
• Bella DeAngelo (Portsmouth, RI/Moses Brown School) also scored three goals while Sydney Havlick (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley), Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory), Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge), Caroline Sanders (Trabuco, CA/Santa Margarita) and Emma Butterick (Windsor, CT/Windsor) all scored two goals apiece
• Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory) added three assists
• Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) made seven stops in goal for the Pioneers
• Smith held advantages in draw controls (20-10) and shots (36-21)
