Lacrosse Falls to Babson in Regular Season Finale

NORTHAMPTON - Babson College rattled off three goals in a span of two minutes in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 21-12 victory over Smith College in the final New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season game Wednesday evening.

Game Highlights
  • Smith won the draw and Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) found Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) for the first goal of the game. Babson responded by scoring four unanswered goals and took a 7-3 edge into the second quarter
  • After the Beavers found the back of the net 2:07 into the period, Smith got goals from Caroline Sanders (Trabuco, CA/Santa Margarita), Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) and Tschider to pull within 8-6. Babson responded with a trio of goals before Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) got one back for the Pioneers to make it 11-7
  • Babson opened the second half by scoring four out of five goals to go ahead 15-8 before Caroline Sanders (Trabuco, CA/Santa Margarita) assisted on a Tschider score. The two teasm exchanged tallies but Babson went on to outscore the Pioneers 5-2 in the final period for the 21-12 final score

By the Numbers
  • Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) powered the Smith attack with four goals as Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) and Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) each finished with three goals and one assist
  • Reese Gittelman (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory) totaled three assists, while Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) and Shannon Houtenville (East Windsor, NJ/Highstown) combined for 15 saves
  • The Beavers held advantages in shots (41-15), ground balls (17-13) and draw controls (29-5)

Smith has clinched the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament and will travel to Coast Guard for a quarterfinal matchup Saturday, April 29 at 1:00pm.
