CLAREMONT, CA - The No. 10 Smith College basketball team outscored host Pomona-Pitzer 14-8 in the fourth quarter, pulling away for a 60-43 non-conference victory over the Sagehens Saturday evening.
With the win, Smith moves to 4-0 on the year, while Pomona-Pitzer drops to 1-2.
Game Highlights
- The two teams exchanged 3-pointers to begin the game and would continue back and forth play for the remainder of the period. Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) knocked down a trey with 2:06 on the clock to go up 15-12 as neither team could get on the board for the remaining of the first.
- Smith used an 8-0 run during the second quarter to hold a 25-16 lead with 6:03 to go and would stretch it to 10 points on another Martin 3-pointer with 3:03 left. The teams went scoreless for the final minutes as Smith went into the break ahead 28-18.
- Smith shot 42.9% in the third and knocked down 6-of-8 from the free throw line to go up 46-35 after three
- Virginia Johnson's (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) trey put Smith up 58-41 and forced a Sagehen timeout as the Pioneers would go on to win 60-43.

- Ella Sylvester (Everett, WA/Everett) led the offensive effort with 16 points and seven rebounds
- Ally Landau (Livingston, NJ) finished with 15 points, five boards, two steals, and two blocks
- Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) added 12 points and three assists
- Smith shot 37.3% (22-of-59) from the field, 23.8% (5-of-21) from 3-point range, and 78.6% (11-of-14) from the free throw line
- The Pioneers won the rebounding battle, 44-34, and owned a 15-0 advantage in fastbreak points
