No. 9 Smith Falls to UMass Dartmouth 63-60

NORTHAMPTON - UMass Dartmouth overcame a 12-point deficit to defeat No. 9 Smith College 63-60 Wednesday evening in non-conference action inside Ainsworth Gymnasium.

Inside the Numbers
  • Ally Landau (Livingston, NJ) recorded a double-double with 12 points and a season-high 15 rebounds to go with two assists
  • Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) added 16 points, while Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) finished with nine points, four rebounds and four assists
  • Smith shot 34.3% (23-of-67) from the field, 26.9% (7-of-26) from three-point range, and 77.8% (7-of-9) from the free throw line
Game Highlights
  • Smith extended its lead to 12-5 on a three-pointer by Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) with 3:54 to go in the first and held a 14-7 advantage after the opening period
  • A trey by Uta Nakamura (Manhattan, NY/Long Island Lutheran) followed by Virginia Johnson's (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) fastbreak layup made it a 19-7 game just over three minutes into the period. A bucket from Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) to close out the half put Smith up 30-21. 
  • The Corsairs chipped away and pulled to within 34-33 midway through the period before a 7-0 run by Martin put the hosts up eight. 
  • UMass Dartmouth knocked down back-to-back threes to go up 53-50 with 2:09 left in the game. The visitors lead grew to seven but Smith got to within two on Landau's three-pointer. Johnson's three-point attempt to tie the game fell just short as the Corsairs earned the win over Smith.
