HARTFORD, CT - The Smith College basketball team outscored Trinity 45-24 in the second half en route to a 74-49 win against the Bantams on Sunday. The 13th-ranked Pioneers improve to 5-1 on the year and gives Trinity (5-1) its first loss of the season. Smith has now won eight-straight games against the Bantams.
Inside the Numbers
- Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) led four players in double figures as she recorded a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and four steals
- Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) added 17 points, seven boards, and four assists, while Ally Landau (Livingston, NJ) chipped in 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals
- Jazmyn Washington (Los Angeles, CA/Birmingham Community Charter) scored a season-high 11 points and grabbed six boards
- Smith shot 44.8% (30-of-67) from the field, 29.4% (5-of-17) from 3-point range, and 60% (9-of-15) from the free throw line
- The Pioneers dominated inside, scoring 40 points in the paint and got 23 points off 21 Trinity turnovers
Game Highlights
- The first quarter was a back-and-forth period featuring eight lead changes and four ties as Trinity took an early 6-2 lead. Tied at 6-6, Loo scored four points while Madi Forman Forman recorded three points as the squads took an 11-11 score into the second quarter.
- Smith began to create separation in the second quarter, opening the frame on a 12-3 run, powered by six points from Martin, to hold a 23-14 lead at the 6:37 mark. Back-to-back buckets from Forman and triple from Theresa Twardosky helped close the gap to 25-23 with 2:22 on the clock. Smith took a 29-25 lead into halftime.
- The Bantams knocked down a three-pointer to kick off the third quarter as Trinity came within a point, 29-28, but Smith pulled away with a 19-2 run over the next six minutes, featuring seven points from Martin and five points from Loo, to take a 48-30 advantage. Trinity outscored the Pioneers, 12-8, over the final three minutes to set the score at 56-42 entering the fourth quarter. Smith used an 18-7 fourth quarter advantage to secure the 74-49 win.
