Box Score CAMBRIDGE -
Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) and
Ally Landau (Livingston, NJ) combined to score 40 points in Smith's 74-47 non-conference victory at MIT on Tuesday evening in Rockwell Cage. With the win, No. 11 Smith improves to 7-1 overall. The Engineers drop to 2-7.
Game Highlights
- The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as there were three ties and five lead changes. Elise Harvey's jumper right before time expired put MIT ahead, 17-16.
- Kamsi Nwogu increased the Engineers' lead with a basket just over 90 seconds into the second stanza. Smith went back in front after a layup by sophomore Maggie Fleming (Downers Grove, IL/Downers Grove) and a three pointer by Virginia Johnson (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest). Libi Matityahoo's jumper tied the game at 21 with 4:43 on the clock. However, a trey by Landau sparked the Pioneers' pivotal run which resulted in a 34-25 halftime lead.
- Martin opened the third quarter with a three pointer for the visitors, but a jumper by Harvey and a three-point play from Angie Choi senior narrowed the gap to 37-30 at the 6:52 mark. Landau replied with another three pointer as Smith went on to outscore MIT, 18-4, down the stretch.
- The Pioneers continued to control the action in the fourth quarter as they had a 16-13 scoring edge, resulting in the 71-47 final score.
By the Numbers
- Martin recorded 20 points and three steals as junior Ella Sylvester (Everett, WA/Everett) notched eight rebounds and two steals.
- Landau posted a double-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds to go along with four assists and a steal
- Martin and Landau combined to drain 11 three-pointers
- Smith shot 41% from the floor, 48.1% from three-point range, and 53.3% from the free throw line
