NORTHAMPTON -
Ally Landau (Livingston, NJ) scored a season-high 22 points to pace the ninth-ranked Smith basketball team in a 63-50 win over Roger Williams University to close out the Smith Holiday Classic Tuesday evening.
Landau was named the MVP, while teammate
Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) earned All-Tournament honors. With the victory, Smith improves to 9-1 on the year. The Hawks fall to 6-4 overall.
Inside the Numbers
- Landau's season best performance came on 6-of-9 shooting from three-point range and added five assists, four rebounds, and two steals
- Martin finished with 12 points, six assists, and three boards
- Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) posted 12 points, seven rebounds and teammate Virginia Johnson (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) grabbed 13 rebounds to go with eight points
- Smith shot 33.8% (24-of-71) from the field, 38.7% (12-of-31) from three-point range, and 37.5% (3-of-8) from the free throw line
Game Highlights
- A balanced attack in the opening minutes gave the Pioneers a 7-0 edge 1:56 into the game. Landau's three-pointer followed by Johnson's trey put Smith ahead 21-7 with 1:43 on the clock, but Roger Williams trimmed the lead and made it 21-11 at the end of the first
- The visitors got within five, 23-18, on a jumped by Sakoya Sweeney midway through the quarter, but Smith ended the period on a 14-7 run to pull ahead 37-25 at the break
- A mostly even second half allowed Smith to come away with the 63-50 victory
