BRIDGEWATER - The Smith College basketball team used stifling defense to defeat Bridgwater Stae, 83-50, Saturday afternoon at the Tinsley Center.
Smith (10-1) is ranked No. 9 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll and No. 13 in the D3hoops.com poll and is 121-14 since the start of the 2019-20 season with back-to-back 30-win seasons.
Inside the Numbers
- Smith was led by graduate student Ally Landau (Livingston, NJ) with 21 points, nine rebounds, and four assists
- Sophomore Uta Nakamura (Manhattan, NY/Long Island Lutheran) came off the bench and added double-doubke totals of 14 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five assists and two blocks
- Senior Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) had 13 points
- Smith shot 52.6% (30-of-57) from the field, 43.8% (7-of-16) from three-point range, and 66.7% (16-of-24) from the free throw line
- The Bears went 29.5% (18-of-61) from the floor, 17.4% (4-of-23) from long distance, and 52.6% (10-of-19) from the free throw line
- The Pioneers owned a 49-29 advantage in rebounds
Game Highlights
- Smith opened a 20-point lead in the first quarter and coasted from start to finish, handing Bridgewater State University (7-5) its fourth straight loss
- The Pioneers raced to a 23-3 lead before owning a 26-7 advantage after one quarter. They were in front, 46-19, at halftime and led, 67-40, going into the final quarter.
