800 Free Relay Highlights Opening Night at NEWMAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE - The Smith College swimming and diving team competed in the 800 yard freestyle relay in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship hosted by MIT on Thursday evening. 

MIT leads the women's competition after day one with 70 points, followed by Wheaton (58), Coast Guard (54), WPI (52), and then Wellesley and Springfield tied with 48. The Pioneers sit seventh with 38 points. 

Smith's "A" team consisting of Caroline Kolmodin (Mountainside, NJ/Academy for Allied Health Sciences Union County), Grace Magee (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal), Cady Dorrian (Jacksonville, FL/Douglas Anderson School of the Arts), and Maddie Milla (Nyack, NY/Nyack)  placed seventh in the event with a time of 8:05.63.

The "B" team of Julia Petrino (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre Global Academy), Abby Dease (Hillsborough, NC/Orange), Parv Bonyadlou (Williamsburg, VA/Warhill), and Lyla Metcalf (South Portland, ME/South Portland) finished eighth in the second heat with a time of 8:22.53.

Up Next
The NEWMAC Championships will continue tomorrow with 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM sessions. Events contested will be the 200 Free Relay, 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 1-Meter Diving, and 400 Medley Relay
