Swim and Dive Finishes Eighth at NEWMAC Championship

CAMBRIDGE - Smith College placed eighth at the 2024 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship on Sunday at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool. Smith's finish was the best result dating back to the 2020 season. 

MIT totaled 1565.5 points over four days to claim the 2024 title for the 13th consecutive season. Coast Guard earned runner-up honors in the team standings with 750 points, finishing 37 points ahead of third place Wheaton College (713 points). Springfield College took fourth (693.5 points) while Wellesley College rounded out the top five (595 points). WPI was sixth (451 points), Babson College was seventh (284 points) and Smith College was eighth (271 points). Mount Holyoke College (254 points) and Clark University (220 points) finished ninth and tenth, respectively.

Highlights
  • Grace Magee (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal) placed eighth in the 1650 free in 18:08.72 and 16th in the 200 back in 2:12.48
  • Caroline Kolmodin (Mountainside, NJ/Academy for Allied Health Sciences Union County) touched the wall 17th (54.24) in the 100 free
  • In the 200 breast, Abby McIlraith (Portland, OR/Sunset) was 18th in 2:32.94
  • Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, MN/Saint Paul Academy) finished sixth on the 3-meter board with 466.60 points
  • In the final event, the 400 free relay team of Kolmodin, Abby Caputo, Maddie Milla (Nyack, NY/Nyack), and Cady Dorrian (Jacksonville, FL/Douglas Anderson School of the Arts) was ninth in 3:44.12
