NORTHAMPTON - Powered by four goals from
Caroline Sanders (Orange County, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic), the Smith College lacrosse team cruised past Mount Holyoke, 17-5, Friday evening in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener.
With the win, Smith improves to 4-3 on the year and a 1-0 mark in conference play. The Lyons slip to 1-6 on the year with an 0-1 record in the NEWMAC.
By the Numbers
- Sanders also added four draw controls and two ground balls
- Kyra Hawk (San Jose, CA/The Harker School) finished with three goals, three assists, and three ground balls
- Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) made one save in the win
- Smith controlled the game throughout and held a decisive advantage in shots (31-8) and ground balls (21-10)
Game Highlights
- Smith left no doubt from the start as four different goal scorers found the back of the net in the opening seven minutes. The Pioneers added eight more for a 12-0 halftime lead.
- The visitors got on the board midway through the third to end the shutout but Smith cruised to the 17-5 win.
