Arancio Records 100th Career Point; Smith Races Past Salve Regina 16-8

NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College lacrosse team scored seven goals in the second quarter as it knocked off Salve Regina 16-8 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest Friday evening. With an assist in the first quarter, senior attacker Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) recorded her 100th career point. She joins teammate Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) as active players who have surpassed the 100 career point mark. 

Smith moves to 5-7 on the year with a 2-3 mark in the NEWMAC. The Seahawks dip to 7-4, 1-3 NEWMAC.

By the Numbers
  • Gia Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) recorded four goals and two assists to lead the Pioneers
  • Kyra Hawk (San Jose, CA/The Harker School) added three goals, two assists, three ground balls, and two draw controls
  • Bella DeAngelo (Portsmouth, RI/Moses Brown School) had two goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Shannon Houtenville (East Windsor, NJ/Highstown) earned the win, making three saves
  • Smith finished the game with a 34-19 advantage in shots and a 14-3 edge in draw controls. The Pioneers won the ground ball battle 17-11.

  • Hawk got Smith on the board just two minutes into the contest before Jennie Arancio (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) doubled the lead. Salve Regina went back-to-back and the teams exchanged goals, but Smith held a 4-3 edge at the end of the first
  • Smith engineered a 7-1 run in the second with five different goal scorers for an 11-4 halftime advantage
  • The Pioneers tacked on three more in the third to go up 14-4
  • Salve Regina outscored Smith 4-2 in the fourth period for the 16-8 final
