SOUTH HADLEY - Smith College swimming and diving closed out a successful weekend by winning the Sisters Invitational at Mount Holyoke College Natatorium on Sunday. With the victory, Smith breaks Wellesley's 26-year win streak at the competition previously named Seven Sisters Invitational.
The Pioneers won nine events at the five team competition with a total of 1146, followed by Wellesley with 985.5. Mount Holyoke (888), Simmons (435.5), and Westfield State (291) rounded out the competition.Â
Meet Highlights
- Jessie Wang (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) placed first in the 500 free (5:21.82), 100 back(1:00.47, and 200 back (2:07.88)
- Madeleine Lucas (Salem, MA/Salem) recorded a first place finish in the 50 free with a time of 25.39
- Grace Magee (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal) followed this up with another top spot in the 1650 free, swimming a 18:34.88
- In the 800 freestyle relay, Emma Schultz (Hyattsville, MD/Elizabeth Seton), Wang, Cady Dorrian (Jacksonville, FL/Douglas Anderson School of the Arts), and Kolmodin touched the wall first in 8:11.97
- The day ended with Smith's 4x400 yard freestyle relay team of Bebe Cosgrove (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz), Zoe Chapin (Camas, WA/Camas), Abby Dease (Hillsborough, NC/Orange), and Kolmodin winning with a time of 3:49.00
- Diver Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, MN/Saint Paul Academy) earned 40 total points for Smith with wins on the 3-meter (473.15) and 1-meter (404.35)
