Landau and Martin Pace No. 6 Smith in Commanding 71-36 Win at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD - The Smith College basketball team left no doubt in a convincing 71-36 win over Springfield College Wednesday evening in conference play. The sixth-ranked Pioneers improve to 16-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the NEWMAC. The Pride fall to 10-8 on the year and 2-2 in league action. 

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Landau led the way with a game-high 19 points to go along with five rebounds, five steals, and four assists. She shot 5-of-7 from beyond-the-arc
  • Martin scored 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and knocked three from long range. She also recorded four rebounds and three assists.
  • Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) finished in double figures with 11 points
  • Smith shot 43.1% (23-of-58) from the floor, 39.1% (9-of-23) from three-point range and 80% (12-of-15) from the free throw line 
  • The teams were even with 35 rebounds apiece
  • Smith scored 26 points off of 23 Springfield turnovers
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Smith wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard, jumping out to a 12-0 lead on six points from Landau. A jumper by Springfield with 17 seconds on the clock brought them to within 21-9 at the end of the opening period
  • Landau scored Smith's final eight points in under 42 seconds to close out the half and send the Pioneers into the break ahead 41-17
  • Smith outscored the Pride 17-12 in the third to head into the final period leading 58-29
  • Springfield started the fourth with a 5-0 run, but Smith outscored the hosts, 13-2 over the final eight minutes to result in the 71-36 decision
