NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College basketball team extended its winning streak to 13 games after it defeated Salve Regina, 88-38, in NEWMAC action on Saturday.
The Pioneers, who are now ranked No. 6 in the country, move to 17-1 on the year with a 5-0 mark in conference play. Salve Regina evens its record to 9-9 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC.
By the Numbers
- Ally Landau (Livingston, NJ) led all scorers with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go with four assists, three rebounds, and three steals
- Uta Nakamura (Manhattan, NY/Long Island Lutheran) added 13 points, six boards, and four steals off the bench, while Kate Hackney (Thousand Oaks, CA/Bishop Alemany) finished with six points and seven boards in eight minutes.
- Jane Loo (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) and Ella Sylvester (Everett, WA/Everett) each posted 13 points, five boards, and two steals
- Smith racked up 30 points on 24 SRU turnovers and owned a 38-22 advantage on the glass
Game Highlights
- A jumper from Salve's Ashley Rourke with 5:56 on the clock made it 12-5 in favor Smith and the hosts responded by outscoring the Seahakws 11-0 the rest of the quarter
- Another dominant period found Smith up 45-14 going into the break after a Virginia Johnson (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) three-pointer as time ran out
- Smith's lead grew to 37 at the end of the third as Nakamura buried a three-pointer to beat the buzzer
- Smith continued to control the action as it had a 22-9 scoring advantage in the final stanza, going up by 50 on Hackney's layup
