Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, MN/Saint Paul Academy) turned in a career-best finish on the 1-meter board Friday evening on day two of the NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship. MIT tops the field with 615 points, while Springfield sits in second with 278 points. Wheaton is third with 266 points, just ahead of Coast Guard (265), followed by Wellesley (160), Babson (159), WPI (157), Smith (155), Mount Holyoke (108), and Clark (100).

- Welsh earned a podium finish by placing second on the 1-meter with an NCAA Qualifying score of 445.30
- In the 500 freestyle B Final, Jessie Wang (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) touched the wall 12th in 5:12.23
- Emma Schultz (Hyattsville, MD/Elizabeth Seton) clocked in a 17th place time of 2:13.94 in the 200 IM, while Madeleine Lucas (Salem, MA/Salem) sprinted to a 19th place finish of 24.92 in the 50 free
- The 200 free relay quartet of Madaleine Lucas, Bebe Cosgrove (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz), Zoe Chapin (Camas, WA/Camas), and Caroline Kolmodin (Mountainside, NJ/Academy for Allied Health Sciences Union County) raced to an eighth-place showing, stopping the clock in 1:42.14
- In the final event of the evening, the 400 medley squad of Wang, Schultz, Ruthie Harkins (Irvine, CA/Crean Lutheran South), and Lucas finished eighth with a time of 4:06.52
Smith returns to competition on Saturday for the third day of the NEWMAC Championships. Preliminaries begin at 10:00am and will feature the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, and 200 Medley Relay.
