Maggie Fleming (Downers Grove, IL/Downers Grove) and
Jillian Nowicki (San Diego, CA/Our Lady of Peace) each registered career-highs in points as the sixth-ranked Smith basketball team never trailed in defeating Clark University, 84-44 in a NEWMAC meeting on Saturday at the Kneller Athletic Center.
Smith moves to 18-1 overall, 7-0 in the NEWMAC and has won 14 straight. Clark drops to 11-10, 3-4 in conference action.
By the Numbers
- Nowicki scored 14 points, connecting on 4-of-7 from long distance, while also adding three rebounds and two steals in 28 minutes off the bench
- Fleming made her first career start and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor for 16 points with five rebounds
- Hannah Martin (North Andover, MA/North Andover) added 21 points, six boards, four steals, and three assists
- Smith shot 46.8% (29-of-62) from the floor, 40% (10-of-25) from three-point range, and 72.7% (16-of-22) from the free throw line
Game Highlights
- Smith scored the first 21 points of the game and led 27-7 after the first
- Nowicki drilled back-to-back three pointers as Smith went up 33-7 early in the second. She then knocked down her third of the period as Smith took a 48-15 advantage into halftime
- The lead grew to as many as 40 on a three-pointer by Martin late in the third and Smith maintained its cushion the rest of the way
