NORTHAMPTON, MA. – The Smith College lacrosse team wrapped up its regular season slate on Saturday afternoon at Smith Turf Field, dropping a 24–5 decision to MIT in NEWMAC play.
Despite the final scoreline, the Pioneers showed flashes of grit and execution, particularly in the second half where they outscored the Engineers in key stretches and forced several turnovers that disrupted MIT's rhythm.
Senior Kyra Hawk (San Jose, CA/The Harker School) continued her standout season with a four-goal performance, bringing relentless energy on the attack. She tallied back-to-back goals in the third quarter and added two more in the fourth, including one off a sharp assist from classmate Sadie Tschider (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont). Hawk's effort brings her season total to 58 goals, while Tschider added to her team-leading assist total and orchestrated much of Smith's ball movement.
Jenna Paczkowski (Jupiter, FL/Choate Rosemary Hall) added a highlight goal midway through the third to ignite a brief Smith run. Defensively, Darci DeAngelis (Boise, ID/Boise) and Lea Glass (Brooklyn, NY/Poly Prep Country Day School) were active in transition, combining for five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Yasmin Grant (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) and Ellie Dye (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) each contributed defensively with strong second-half play.
In the cage, Shannon Houtenville (East Windsor, NJ/Highstown) made six saves during her 45 minutes of action, and Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) opened the match with a save in the first quarter.
