WORCESTER, MA – The Smith College softball team earned a key conference win on Saturday, taking game one of a NEWMAC doubleheader at Clark University, 3–2, before falling in the nightcap, 9–5. The Pioneers totaled 17 hits across both games, led by multi-hit days from several contributors and strong pitching in the opener.
Game One – Smith 3, Clark 2
Smith came out strong in the opener, using a two-run second inning and a composed pitchinf performance to secure the win. The Pioneers totaled nine hits, with Taz Tamai (Cincinati, OH/The Seven Hills School) and Lucy Allen (West Boylston, MA/West Boylston) each collecting multi-hit games to pace the offense.
The scoring started when Ally Knutson (Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) roped a single to left to plate Tamai, followed by Wajerski driving in a run with a sacrific fly. Smith regained the lead in the top half of the 7th inning with Ally Knutson (Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) pushing home Tamai again as Knutson reached on an error.
Defensively, Smith was sharp, committing no errors and turning in a clean performance behind the pitching staff. Emilie Doty (Arlington, VA/Washington-Liberty) got the win in the circle.
Game Two – Clark 9, Smith 5
The Pioneers carried their offensive momentum into game two, racking up 12 hits, but were unable to overcome Clark's early lead.
Lucy Allen (West Boylston, MA/West Boylston) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Elinor Washington (Sacramento, CA/Pleasant Grove) added two hits and drove in two.
Ally Knutson (Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) had a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored. Doty returned in relief and struck out three over three innings for the second straight game.

Smith travels to Williams College on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 5pm.
