Softball Falls on the Road at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – The Smith College softball team traveled to Cole Field on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt against regional powerhouse Williams College, ultimately falling 9–1 in six innings.

Smith put together solid at-bats, aggressive base running, and a steady defensive presence in a game that was closer than the final score indicated through the first five innings.

Smith's offense broke through in the fourth, sparked by senior Piper Corey (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors), who went 2-for-3 and led off the inning with a single up the middle. She later came around to score on a sharp base hit by sophomore Ava Lansbury (Arlington, VA/Washington-Liberty), who reached base twice and continued her strong production behind the plate. Elinor Washington (Sacramento, CA/Pleasant Grove) added a single and swiped two stolen bases, showcasing her speed and heads-up base running.

In the circle, junior Emilie Doty (Arlington, VA/Washington-Liberty) worked 5.1 innings in a complete-game effort, striking out two and battling through a deep Williams lineup. Despite the scoreline, Doty delivered several key outs in high-pressure situations and kept the Ephs off balance through the middle innings.
