Tennis Dominates Springfield in Key NEWMAC Victory

April 23, 2025

Springfield, MA. –  Smith Tennis delivered a commanding 7-0 sweep over conference rival Springfield College on Tuesday afternoon, continuing our push toward the NEWMAC postseason.

With the win, Smith Tennis moves to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Smith started strong by sweeping doubles play to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 1 team of Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School) and the No. 2 team of Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) both recorded 6-0 wins. Sabrina Wang (Beijing, China/Princeton) and Natazya Simunyola (Lorton, VA/South County High School) secured the point at No. 3 with a 6-2 victory.

The Pioneers carried that momentum into singles, sweeping all six courts. Hauser outlasted her opponent at No. 1 in a super tiebreaker (6-4, 4-6, 10-5), while Simunyola and Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) picked up straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) (No. 4), Sabrina Wang (Beijing, China/Princeton) (No. 5), and Tabitha Bastress (Charlotte, VT/Champlain Valley Union High School) (No. 6) rounded out the scoring with dominant performances.

Smith will look to carry this momentum into the final regular season match and lock in their spot for the NEWMAC Tournament.
