NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Smith College volleyball moved up two spots to No. 19 in the AVCA-Taraflex Division III Women's Volleyball Poll released Tuesday. The Bears (21-1, 7-0 NEWMAC) earned 498 points, up from 387 points a week ago at No. 21.
Smith rose after a 3-0 week that included straight-set wins over Clark, Salve Regina and Simmons. The Bears have won 12 straight matches and remain unbeaten at home (10-0) and in conference play. Anna Feuer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) was named NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday, her second straight weekly honor.
Smith is one of three NEWMAC programs in this week's Top 25, joining No. 7 MIT and No. 25 Babson. The Bears beat Babson 3-1 on the road Sept. 26, when the Beavers were ranked No. 19. Smith's only loss came against William Smith, which received votes this week.
Two more ranked opponents remain on the regular-season schedule. Smith hosts No. 13 Wesleyan on Oct. 23 in the NESCAC-NEWMAC Challenge and No. 7 MIT on Nov. 3, both at Ainsworth Gymnasium.
Smith visits Emerson College in Boston tonight for a 7 p.m. NEWMAC match.
