Swim & Dive Opens NEWMAC Championships with Seventh Place Finish in 800 Free Relay

CAMBRIDGE - The Smith College swimming and diving team began the competition at the 2026 NEWMAC Championships held at MIT Thursday evening. Through tonight's first sessoin, Smith sits in seventh place with 40 points. The host Engineers lead the way with 70 points followed by Wheaton (58), Coast Guard (52), Babson (52), Wellesley (50) and WPI (48).

Smith's A 800 free relay squad of Jessie Wang (Princeton, NJ/Princeton), Maggie Cline (Santee, CA/West Hills), Emma Schultz (Hyattsville, MD/Elizabeth Seton), and Madeleine Lucas (Salem, MA/Salem) produced a seventh place finish time of 7:56.18. In the B final, the quartet of Grace Magee (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal), Ruthie Harkins (Irvine, CA/Crean Lutheran South), Carla Zeppettella (Centerville, OH/Centerville), and Cady Dorian placed 17th overall in 8:16.56.

Up Next
Smith will return to the pool tomorrow morning for day two of the 2025 NEWMAC Championships. Preliminary events featured in Friday's session include the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 400 medley relay and the women's 1-meter dive. Action is slated to begin at 10:00am from MIT.
