NEWMAC First Round Preview: No. 5 Smith at No. 4 Babson

NORTHAMPTON - The No. 5 seed Smith College lacrosse team (10-7) travels to No. 4 seed Babson College (10-6) Saturday in the first round of the NEWMAC Lacrosse Championship at 1:00pm at MacDowell Field. The winner advances to Wednesday's semifinals at the No. 1 seed MIT. 

Tickets for NEWMAC championship events can be purchased through the NEWMAC box office. The NEWMAC encourages fans to purchase their mobile tickets in advance of the event to streamline the entry process on game day. Spectators may purchase mobile tickets on site, but no cash option will be available. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission. Children 12 and under and NEWMAC students with a valid institutional ID are free and do not need to purchase a mobile ticket. Once a matchup is confirmed following each round of the championship, the tickets will become available.

Players to Watch
  • For Babson, Lilly Bedard (33-33-66) ranks fourth in the league in assists and eighth in points, first-year Jenna Wong (36-4-40) has scored multiple goals in five of the last six games and Laden (28-1-29) has 12 goals over the last four games and leads the team with 57 draw controls, 24 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. 
  • Kyra Hawk (San Jose, CA/The Harker School) (58-8-66) ranks fourth in the conference in goals and eighth in points, while Caroline Sanders (Orange County, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic) (35-19-54) leads the team with 79 draw controls, 41 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers, and Layna Fitzgerald (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) (35-3-38) has scored 10 goals over the last three games. Goalkeeper Brooke Testa (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) owns a 10.69 goals against average and a .462 save percentage in 15 starts this year.
