COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — The Smith College track and field team placed 10th out of 64 teams at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships at Ursinus College on Wednesday and Thursday, led by a program-record 4x800-meter relay, a fifth-place heptathlon finish, and individual podium performances from Lucy Kreipke (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) and Lyda Martin (San Antonio, TX/Lee).
Relay Sets Program Record
The meet's signature team moment came in the 4x800-meter relay, where Avery Grace Maiese (Waterford, CT/Waterford High School), Sofia Jurusz (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Middle Township), Catherine Collins (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), and Martin combined to run a program-record 9:22.51, claiming second place and earning eight team points for Smith.
Heptathlon
Elaine McCarty () delivered the meet's most complete individual performance, posting a personal-record 4,004 points across all seven heptathlon events to finish fifth in the final standings. McCarty recorded personal records in [X] of the seven disciplines over the two-day competition, competing across the 100-meter hurdles (16.20), high jump (1.46m/4-9.50), shot put (9.57m/31-4.75), 200 meters (27.28), long jump (4.89m/16-0.50), javelin (26.27m/86-2), and 800 meters (2:36.70).
Individual Podium Finishes
Kreipke earned third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a personal-record 11:12.72, scoring six team points. Martin also claimed third individually, crossing the line in 4:36.52 in the 1,500 meters for six additional points.
Kerry Seekamp (Destin, FL/Fort Walton Beach) added three more points with a season-best vault of 3.63 meters (11-10.75) to place sixth in the pole vault.
Additional Performers
Jurusz also competed individually in the 800 meters, placing 10th in 2:16.56, with Collins finishing 21st at 2:20.22. Hillary Connor (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) ran 18:58.24 in the 5,000 meters (34th) and Amie Gronert (Milwaukee, WI/Shorewood) placed 14th in the 10,000 meters at 40:03.88. Daniela Pilier (Higuey, DR/Escuela Liceo Juan XXIII de la Salle) ran 12.85 in the 100-meter prelims (38th).
