WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Smith College track and field team wrapped up competition at the two-day Williams FIRE Invitational, with senior Lyda Martin (San Antonio, TX/Lee) leading the Bears with a fourth-place finish in the 1500-meter run and a strong supporting cast contributing scoring marks across the track and field events.
On the Track
Martin clocked 4:33.31 in the 1500, sitting as high as second place at the 1100-meter mark with a 3:18.58 split before settling into fourth at the line. Lucy Kreipke (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) added another distance effort for the Bears, finishing 11th in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:17.93.
In the sprints, senior Lena Baker (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit North) turned in a pair of efforts, placing eighth in the 200-meter dash in 26.35 (+1.2) and 12th in the 400 at 59.22. Fellow senior Daniela Pilier (Higuey, DR/Escuela Liceo Juan XXIII de la Salle) finished 10th in the 200 in 26.68 (+1.2). Elaine McCarty () ran 18.04 (-0.5) in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the Field
The pole vault produced two scoring finishes for Smith, as senior Kerry Seekamp (Destin, FL/Fort Walton Beach) placed fifth with a clearance of 3.58 meters (11-9.00) and senior Jillian da Costa Pinto (West Hartford, CT/Conard) took 12th at 3.43 meters (11-3.00). McCarty added a 10th-place mark in the long jump, leaping 5.05 meters (16-6.75) on a +1.0 jump.
