NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College field hockey team will travel to Peru from August 8-16 for an international tour that will include two competitions, team-building opportunities, community service and cultural experiences throughout the country. 

"The opportunity to travel as a team creates lifelong memories," said head coach Jaime Ginsberg. "From the moment we depart Smith, there is a level of care for one another as we travel that brings a team together in a way, not matched in a traditional season. I am excited to explore Peru and its food and culture with this group of athletes. The team is excited about our Machu Picchu hike and the opportunity to give back to the community. The ability to participate in games and practices using field hockey as our common language is always an eye-opening experience which elicits a deeper love for the game."

In addition to the two competitions, the Bears will have opportunities to explore Peru and experience the Peruvian culture through several activities, including surf lessons, walking tours of Cuzco and historic Lima, sandboarding, and sightseeing Machu Picchu.
