NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College swimming and diving team will compete in their first dual meet of the season when they make the short trip to Springfield College to compete against the Pride at the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Last Year: Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) won a pair of races, with dominating performances in the 1,000 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle, and the relay team of
Robin Currens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Johnson),
Lauren Kauffman (Scottsdale, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day),
Alexandra Page (Brookline, Mass./Brookline), and
Lenora Walter (Santa Ynez, Calif./Santa Ynez Valley) won the 200 yard freestyle relay. Springfield won the meet by a score of 173-122.
Smith Overview: Jenika Parson posted top five finishes in the one meter and and three meter diving events at the non-scoring Betty Spears Relays at Wellesley College. Bradley, Kauffman, and Page Christie came in fifth in the 1,500 freestyle relay in 17:10.79.
Sarah Tucker (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic),
Alexandra Page (Brookline, Mass./Brookline), and Currens earned a ninth place finish in 3:27.53 in the 300 yard backstroke relay, while
Victoria Wu (Avon, Conn./Avon),
Ariel Orr (Hamden, Conn./Harare International School), and
Jenny Prince combined for a 10th place finish in the 300 yard breastroke relay, in 3:56.13. Bradley, and Christie, along with
Kelsey Swensen and
Emily Lane came in ninth in the 800 yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:52.90.
Springfield Overview: The Pride are 1-1 in dual meets this year, with both of their meetings coming against Division I opposition. Springfield opened the season with a 173-119 win over Holy Cross, followed by a 163.5-131.5 loss to the University of Rhode Island. In the win over the Crusaders, Springfield got two wins apiece from Laura Hartford (1,000 free, 500 free), Kellie Pennington (50 free, 100 fly), Kelsey Poole (100 backstroke, 200 backstroke), and Caroline Kosciusko (200 free, 100 free).
Did you know? Art Linkletter, for whom the Natatorium is named, was the host of the radio and TV show
House Party, as well as being the springboard for the Bill Cosby show,
Kids Say the Darndest Things. While he never attended Springfield, he served as a trustee of the college for several years.
