NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The final game of the season is here for the Smith College soccer team (7-8, 3-5 NEWMAC) when the Pioneers host MIT (12-3-1, 7-1 NEWMAC) on Saturday. Seniors
Emily Peake (Penobscot, Maine/George Stevens Academy),
Ewa Januszkiewicz (Ansonia, Conn./Ansonia),
Chelby Wakefield (East Longmeadow, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson), and
Cody Norris (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) will be honored before their final game at Smith.
Last Meeting: MIT scored in the 34th minute for a 1-0 win on October 1, 2011.
Last Smith Win: October 7, 2005 - Smith scored in the 7th and 12th minutes, and that was all they would need for a 2-0 win that would up their record to 6-3-1, and 3-1 in the NEWMAC.
Smith Overview: The Pioneers grabbed a 2-0 win over Fitchburg State on Tuesday. An own goal got the Pioneers on the board, and
Aidan Hitt (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) wrapped up the victory with a goal from the penalty spot.
MIT Overview: The Engineers are still in the running for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NEWMAC tournament. MIT would need a win as well as Springfield not to win to claim the No. 1 seed outright, or to have Springfield not match MIT's result on Saturday.
