Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Ashley Peter scored the only goal of the game with 15 minutes remaining to lift the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to a 1-0 win over Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday.
The Engineers improved to 13-3-1 and 8-1 in the NEWMAC. MIT has earned the No. 2 seed and a bye into the semifinals in the upcoming NEWMAC tournament. Smith ends its season with a 7-9 mark, and 3-6 NEWMAC ledger. Before the game Smith honored its four seniors -

MIT outshot Smith in the first half by a 7-0 margin, but could not beat Norris in the Smith net. Leslie Meyer had two attempts on frame, including one from three yards out in the eighth minute that Norris got down to save.
Jennifer Ibanez fired a shot over the Smith net in the 29th minute, and Norris saved another shot from Ibanez to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
Emiy Kuo, who came into the game as the NEWMAC's leading scorer, saw two shots stopped by Norris in the 60th minute, and Ibanez rattled the post in the 69th. Bella McNamara responded with Smith's first shot a minute later.
Peter broke the deadlock from a shot from just inside the penalty area that rolled under a screened Norris for her first goal of the season.
Norris finished with 10 saves in net for Smith, while MIT counterpart Meghan Wright was not called upon to make a save.
