NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--
Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) won the 200 butterfly and the 1,000 freestyle as the Smith College swimming and diving team fell in a dual meet to local foe Springfield College by a score of 171-117 on Tuesday night. It was the first home meet of the season for the Pioneers.
Bradley was dominant in the 1,000 freestyle, finishing in 11:04.25, nearly 24 seconds ahead of Springfield's Jenna Callahan, who finished second. Bradley also took home third place in the 500 free, in 5:31.99, and nabbed a second win in the 200 fly, touching the wall in 2:20.56.
Alyssa Pascuzzo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) also brought home a win, with a 1:03.73 time in the 100 fly that outdistanced Springfield's Kaitlin Simpson by three seconds. Pascuzzo also took second in the 200 IM, in 2:22.12.
The 200 medley relay team of
Robin Currens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Johnson),
Ariel Orr (Hamden, Conn./Harare International School),
Alyssa Pascuzzo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep), and
Meredith Millman (Syosset, N.Y./Jerich) captured second place with a time of 2:01.63, while
Paige Christie (N. Andover, Mass./Austin Prep) finished the 200 freestyle in 2:09.98, taking fourth place.
Currens and
Laura Nunnelly (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) went 2-3 in the 100 backstroke, with Currens finishing in 1:08.54, with Nunnelly right behind in 1:09.50. Orr also took second in the 100 yard breaststroke, in 1:13.78, and Millman was third in the 50 free, with a time of 27.57. Pascuzzo took fourth place in the 100 free, clocking in at 58:06, while Currens notched fourth place in the 200 back, with a time of 2:26.43. Orr followed suit in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:42.33.
Millman, Currens, Christie, and Bradley also grabbed third place in the 400 freestyle relay, with a time of 4:07.07, just ahead of teammates
Hayley Bezubka (N. Kingstown, R.I./N. Kingstown),
Hannah Francis (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton Prep),
Kyle Boyd (Amherst, Mass./Amherst), and
Emily Clark (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee), who were fourth in 4:07.66.
Jenika Parson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) took a fourth place finish in the 1-meter dive, totalling 183.55 points.
Smith will be back in action next Tuesday, traveling to Elms College for a 7 p.m. dual meet.
