Game Preview: Basketball vs. Springfield

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--A frenetic stretch of four games in nine days for the Smith College basketball team (4-1, 2-0 NEWMAC) begins with a road contest against league foe Springfield College (1-4, 0-2 NEWMAC).  Springfield leads the all-time series 22-6, and the teams split their two meetings last season, with both schools winning on the road.


Last Meeting: Smith opened the second half on an 11-1 run en route to a 59-49 win over the Pride on December 4, 2012.  Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Pioneers won their fifth straight game.

Smith Overview: Smith forced a whopping 36 turnovers in a 70-46 win over Wheaton College on Saturday, in the Tyler Tip-Off.  The Pioneeers led by as many as 31 points, paced by four players in double-figures.

Springfield Overview:  The Pride have lost four in a row after a season opening victory over Trinity College on November 17.  Springfield has fallen in their last two league games by an average of 11.5 points, and has only scored over 50 points on two occasions.

Smith Player to Watch: Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate) has scored in double-figures in two of the last three games, and shot an efficient 6-for-8 against Wheaton on Saturday.

Springfield Player to Watch: Jaimie Bickelhaupt is the Pride's leading scorer, despite coming off the bench for all five games this year.

Did you know? Smith is one of two teams that is undefeated in league play thus far, while Springfield is one of two teams that is winless in league play.
