NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College soccer team (1-2) will look to snap a two game losing streak when they travel up to Lyndon, Vt., to face the Lyndon State College Hornets (2-2) on Thursday afternoon. The game caps a four game road swing to open the season for the Pioneers.
Last Meeting: Smith outshot the Hornets 18-4, but Lyndon State got the only goal of the game in the 19th minute for a 1-0 win on September 10, 2011.
Last Smith Win: The Pioneers got a goal in each half for a 2-0 vicory on October 12, 2010. Sarah Pedicini opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and
Ellie Theurer (Gainesville, Fla./Oak Hall) doubled the lead in the 64th as Smith snapped a five game losing streak.
Smith Overview: The Pioneers suffered a pair of tough losses at the Rutland Herald Invitational this past weekend. Smith fell to the hosts, 2-0, as the Spartans scored twice in the final 10 minutes. In the consolation against Elmira, Smith outshot the Soaring Eagles 18-15, including 13-9 in the second half, but fell 1-0 as Elmira scored just before halftime.
Lyndon State Overview: The Hornets have won two straight after dropping their first two games of the season. After season opening losses to Keene State (6-0) and Johnson State (1-0) at the Cardinal Classic in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lyndon State rebounded with a 5-0 win over Vermont Tech (USCAA), and a 1-0 win over Regis College (Mass.).
Smith Player to Watch: Cody Norris (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) did not make an appearance last season, but has 16 saves and only three goals allowed this season.
Lyndon State Player to Watch: Sarah Cornell has scored three of the teams' six goals this season.
