Box Score WALTHAM, Mass.--The Smith College soccer team fell it in its final non-conference game of the season in a 1-0 defeat to Brandeis University on Tuesday night. The Pioneers are now 3-5-1, while the Judges improve to 7-2.
The Judges got the game's only goal when Dara Spital took a pass from Holly Szafran and scored with a left footed shot in the 25th minute of the game. Leading 1-0 at halftime, Brandeis could have had more when Szafran and Sara Isaacson both hit the post early in the second period.
Smith, which was outshot 23-3, attempted to get back in the game in the 66th minute, but
Jackie Foody (Weston, Mass./Weston) dragged her shot wide, as did
Aidan Hitt (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) in the 75th minute.
Alanna Lynch (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) kept Smith in the game, making seven saves. Lynch kept Smith within 1-0 with a save off of
Mary Shimko's header, and wrapped up attempts from Spital and Jessica Morana in the final five minutes.
Smith will resume NEWMAC play with a home date against the United States Coast Guard Academy on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Judges, who received votes in the latest National College Soccer Coaches Assocation Top 25 poll, will travel to Case Western Reserve for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
