October 06, 2015

Box Score

Northampton, Mass. - Springfield's Brooke Hattinger and Kim Quiles led the visitors to a 2-0 conference win over Smith College Tuesday afternoon as Smith was shut-out for just the second time this season.

With the loss, Smith falls to 5-3-3 overall, and 1-1-2 in league play whie Springfield improves to 7-3-1 on the year, and 3-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

A foul by the Pioneers just outside gave the Pride a golden opportunity to take the lead early in the match, but Elizabeth Monson's shot was sent directly at Smith goalkeeper Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass./Berkshire).

Hattinger opened the games scoring with 5:21 remaining in the first half, when she found the back of the net on a direct free kick from just outside the box following a Smith foul, giving the Pride a 1-0 edge prior to the break.

The Pride ended all hopes of a Smith comback  as they would add an insurance tally with 1:30 remaining in the contest. Quiles received a pass at midfield, carried the ball up, and blasted a shot from 25 yards out, that carried over the out-stretched hands of Hall and into the back of the net.

Pioneers' goalkeepers Biasin and Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) each played a half and were tested throughout the entire contest. Biasin, who made a number of terrific saves, finished with seven stops, while Hall registered four in the loss. Springfield goalkeeper Ciara Boucher saw just one shot on goal through 90 minutes of play, as she finished the contest with one stop. Springfield held a 25-3 shot advantage and 7-0 margin in corner kicks.

Up next, Smith will continue NEWMAC play when it will travel to Emerson for a 1:00 pm match this Saturday.
