Guest-Pritchett Leads Pioneers Past Wentworth, 59-44

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - A double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds for first-year Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, GA/The Lawrenceville School) powered Smith College to a 59-44 victory over Wentworth Tuesday evening in non-conference basketball action. Both were career-high numbers for the forward. 

Paige Marquez (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Preparatory) netted 12 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds for the home team, while first-year Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) poured in 10 points, six rebounds and tallied three helpers. Amanda Barriscale (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) grabbed six offensive rebounds on the night.


The Leopards were led by junior Carly Rogers and Rachael Camara, who each recorded 13 points. Rogers added a team-high seven rebounds and a game-high six blocks, while Megan McLaughlin finished with eight points, five boards and three assists. 

The Smith defense forced 26 turnovers and held a dominating presence on the boards, outrebounding WIT 50-33, 27 of which were offensive.

The first quarter was closely contested and no team took a lead larger than three as neither team was able to get in a rythm. A jumper from Camara gave the Leopards a 13-12 edge going into the second quarter.


Guest-Pritchett scored the first six points of the second quarter for the Pioneers and a fast-break layup from Jade Chihara (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) gave the home team a four point lead (20-16) with 4:52 to play. Smith ended the half on a 6-0 run that began with a three-point play from Alakai to put the Pioneers on top 29-21 heading into the break. 

A jumper from Erin Hanley (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep) gave Smith a 39-27 advantage with 4:43 left in the third quarter, at which point Wentworth scored eight straight to come within four (39-35).

The Pioneers largest lead of the game came on a free throw from Guest-Pritchett, which capped a 20-6 fourth quarter run to give the home team a 59-43 lead with 56 seconds left in the game. 


Smith is back in action on December 2 when they open NEWMAC play against Coast Guard at 7 p.m.
